NaNoWriMo

Ok. I did it. I signed up for National Novel Writing Month. Granted, I did it 5 days late and have therefore seriously hurt myself. So, I have 5 days less than everyone else to write 50,000 words. ::Deep breath:: Ok. I can do this.

I have tried writing novels in the past, and I have never gotten farther than the beginning. I'm hoping this project will FORCE me to finish. However, I may need a few nudges along the way. I could use any moral support you guys are willing to give. I thought about trying to complete this project all by myself so no one would know if I gave it up halfway through, but I knew I would never even start if I did that. As cheesy and corny and sad as if may sound, I need some help if I'm ever going to finish this. Even if you're not the commenting type, a few words to keep me going now and then would mean more than you can imagine. Because really, I'm writing this post with the thought in the back of my mind that I may never actually complete this task. And I really, really don't want that to be true.

  1. You can do it. Seriously, you can do it.

If you think about the whole thing at once, of course it's overwhelming. That's why I would recommend writing words per day. Just get a general idea and then slam out a little bit every day you write.

I am the same way when I write. I worry and worry about how it will turn out, and that mostly keeps me from getting started in the first place.

I think giving yourself until Christmas is good, too. Don't stress it too much and make yourself nuts.

Do you have an idea that keeps floating in and out. Get started on one angle of it, and who knows where it will end up.

  2. Thanks! That's great advice. I'm feeling pretty confident at the moment, but what I've heard is that week 2 is when things start to get ugly.

Are you (or anyone else reading this) doing NaNoWriMo as well? If so, I'd love to add you as a writing buddy. Except you'll need to tell me how to do that, because the only way I've found is to look through the forums and then click on a username I recognize. Is there an easier way?
