Before and After: Our Reading Room

Ok.  Seriously.  I'm going to start writing regular posts again.

I've done many things since I've moved, but I think the most important (or at least the most relevant to this blog) is put together a reading area in our loft.

This is the bookcase I was starting out with.  And those aren't even all of my books.  Definitely needed an upgrade.

So the first thing we had to do was get a reading chair.  A nice, comfy, sink-into-it reading chair.

Perfect.  Then we needed some new bookshelves that could actually accommodate the massive amount of books I've collected over the years.

Except picture two of those.  There's one on the other side of the room, next to our computer desk (where I'm typing this!).  The room isn't big enough to really get a good angle to get everything into one shot...and the desk is a mess and I don't want to spoil the illusion that I keep things neat.

So there you have it.  I'm trying really hard not to let the innate librarian in me put everything in alphabetical order, because for some reason people seem to roll their eyes at that.  (Why?  It's perfectly logical!)  However, last night I did separate everything into genres, so I have at least got that much and it helps me sleep at night.

  1. I love it! It's my dream to have a library in my home someday. Can I come over and read in your chair?

  3. I have my fiction organized by the author's country. Is that weird? I don't know why I did it but I can get my hands on things pretty fast. I can't decide if Henry James is Amerian or British. He's my only trouble maker. Nice Chair! I found you through the Hop, too!

  4. Thanks, Alee! I'll be sure to check out your blog, too.

Chelle, that's a great idea. I studied Henry James in an American Lit class, so I'd put him with the other U.S. authors. Thanks for stopping by!
