It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This meme is now being hosted by Sheila at One Person's Journey Through a World of Books.

Let's see, in the past 2 weeks (I'm going that far back because I didn't participate last week - for shame!) I read The Hunger Games and Her Fearful Symmetry.  Both reviews are up, so click on the titles to read!

This week I'm focusing on Not Quite Paradise: An American Sojourn in Sri Lanka by Adele Barker.

And, while I don't plan on reviewing it (again), even though I'm noticing more things worth mentioning, I'm re-reading Twilight.  It's nice to temper more serious, thick-subject books with light, well-known, comfortable reads.

That's it for me this week.  What are you reading?

  2. I haven't been to the library recently to pick up some of the books I want to read, so I've gone back to my home library and some old favorites. Last week I read various short stories out of Catfantastic II, and this week it's Catfantastic III. I don't read all of the stories in each book anymore. Some I remember too well, and others I didn't like much. They are basically fantasy with sentient cats with sometimes super powers as the focus. Andre Norton and Martin Greenberg (sp?) are the editors.

  3. Oh! The Hunger Games...I'll have to go and read what you thought, I loved it! And I've really wanted to pick up Her Fearful Symmetry, but maybe I'll read what you thought first.

I have to say, it's nice to see someone not afraid to say they like reading Twilight. I love it! I've read the series a few times and it's exactly what you said. It's something to get you through all the serious reading. Very nice.

Hope you have a great reading week! And thanks for stopping by my site earlier!

  4. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on Her Fearful Symmetry - the reviews have been so varied its seems its either you love or loathe it. One day I'll get around to reading it myself.

    Happy reading!

  5. I've been thinking about rereading Twilight too. Which is a little embarrassing, but you're totally right about how nice it can be to read in some nice light stuff in between the heavier things :)

  6. I loved The Hunger Games. Not Quite Paradise sounds interesting to me. My parents are from Sri Lanka originally. They took me there when I was a baby but I haven't been back since. This might be a book I should read!

I agree with you that it is good to read lighter books sometimes. I like to do the same thing.

Here is what I'm reading this week.

  7. Not Quite Paradise: An American Sojourn in Sri Lanka by Adele Barker sounds like a good choice for The South Asian Challenge.

    Thanks.

  8. Amy,

If you want to leave a link when you comment, use the link tag:

I try to do that so people don't have to cut and paste. I hope you are enjoying Not Quite Paradise.

  9. I got hit hard this week with books becoming available at the library. I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I also started reading Three Cups of Tea. And I have two others that I picked up as well. Luckily, they're YA and should hopefully be quick reads.

  10. Thanks, everyone!

Christina - this is definitely a book that will give you insight into what it's like to live in Sri Lanka today. I'll have a review up as soon as I've finished reading it, so check back! And thanks for the tag!

Nicole - I've been thinking about re-reading the Harry Potters as well. And I'll look forward to a review of Three Cups of Tea; I haven't read it yet.

  12. I've heard good things about Hunger Games, but I don't know much about either of the other two.

BTW, I like your background image, even though it's a bit of a slow load.

  13. Thanks, Elena! I took away the falling snow, so hopefully that helps it load faster.

  14. I enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife, but I've heard such mixed reviews of Her Fearful Symmetry that I haven't been in a big hurry to pick it up. I'll probably get to it sometime.

    Enjoy your Sri Lanka book!
