It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Well, it's another Monday, people.  That means alarm clocks, traffic jams, and the daily grind, but it also means our weekly meme hosted by the lovely Sheila!  (It also means one more week down, but who's counting?)  To all of you new followers that ran across my blog from the Blog Hop, welcome, and thank you for being here!

Last week I finished The Book Thief and I absolutely loved it!  Such a powerful, beautiful book.  If you haven't already, click on the title for my review.

This week I'm reading Cleopatra's Daughter, which is set in such an interesting time period that I was practically guaranteed to be hooked, but Michelle Moran's storytelling makes it that much better.

And I just picked up Catching Fire from the library (finally!).

I'm also still listening to Mansfield Park.  Maybe it's my inability to pay attention to audio books, but for some reason I'm still waiting for Ms. Austen to get to the good part.  Has anybody else felt this way?  I love Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey, but I'm not feeling this one.

That's it for me today.  What are you reading?

  1. I just picked up a copy of Catching Fire too! I'm also trying to finish up Three Cups of Tea and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

  2. Mansfield Park has the distinction of being the last book I forced myself to read all the way through. After that I'd decided that I wasn't going to do that to myself anymore. And I loved Emma, Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility.

I am still waiting for my copy of Catching Fire to come in at the library. I can't wait! Enjoy!

I can't wait to see what you think of Cleopatra's daughter!

    Have a great reading week!

  5. I am just about to finish "Persuasion" by Jane Austen. I think she takes a really long time to get to the good part. Maybe it's the fast pace that we are used to in our own lives. Anyway, I like it but I don't love it. Next up is "Emma." I just noticed that I picked up two copies of "Wuthering Heights" at the library last week. Thought I was getting "Jane Eyre." Also, two of my holds are in and must be picked up by next Monday - "Of Bees and Mist" and "Her Fearful Symmetry."

  6. The Book Thief is one I know I have to read but keep overlooking. I enjoyed Cleopatra's Daughter.

    Have a great reading week!

  7. Mansfield Park was our set Austin text at school, and almost succeeded in putting me off Austin for life, as I couldn't imagine a less compelling heroine than Fanny Price... So, you're not alone.....

  8. I absolutely love Catching Fire, enjoy! As for Austen I loved P&P but HATED Sense and Sensibility, I felt the same way. When will she get to the good part?

  9. I love Jane Austen - Persuasion is one of my favorite books - but I've tried starting Mansfield Park and could never quite get into it :/

I really want to read Cleopatra's Daughter - I fell in love with Michelle Moran after reading the Heretic Queen - hope you enjoy it & I look forward to seeing what you think!

  10. I just got Cleopatra's Daughter and can't wait to read it, I hope you enjoy Moran's book.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one whose had difficulty getting through Mansfield Park. Despite my love for Austen, I have troubles getting past the first 100 pages.

  11. My sister is reading Cleopatra's Daughter. It sounds like a very interesting book. Catching Fire was one of my favorite books of 2009. I hope you will enjoy it. Mansfield Park was not one of my favorite Jane Austen novels. I liked it but not as much as P&P, Persuasion or S&S. Northanger Abbey is actually my least favorite. I guess I didn't connect with the heroine. I hope that you enjoy all your books this week.

    Here is what I'm reading.

  12. I struggle with all audio books, but remember liking Mansfield Park when I read it.

You mentioned wanting to read Walking to Gatlinburg because of your love for the city...so far, 100 pages in, they are no where near Gatlinburg and I am having trouble getting into it. Oh well, not every book is for everybody!

  14. You are a brave soul to listen to Mansfield Park! As much as I love love love Jane Austen, I have to read her books with my eyes, or I'm fast asleep.

  15. I couldn't wait for my library to finally get Catching Fire, so I bought it from Costco of all places. It's so good!

Mansfield Park is probably my least favorite of Austen's books. The main character just isn't as delightful as her others.

  17. Thank you all for your comments! I'm getting the feeling that Mansfield Park isn't a great favorite, even among Austen fans, so at least I'm not the lone wolf on this one. And as an update, I'm loving Cleopatra's Daughter and I absolutely cannot wait to start Catching Fire!
