A Fourth Millennium Book?

I just found out that Stieg Larsson's partner, Eva Gabrielsson, has decided to finish the fourth novel in his popular Millennium trilogy, stating that Larsson had already written about 200 pages of the novel, and the two usually wrote together.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.  I actually thought the third book finished the trilogy nicely.  Plus, I'm not big on other people finishing an author's work.  Even if Larsson and Gabrielsson wrote together often, there's a reason why only his name is on the covers.

Here's the article I found with more information.  How do you guys feel about another book added to the Millennium trilogy?  Is anyone else concerned about the consistency of the work if Gabrielsson finishes the fourth novel?

  1. I have read that Larsson planned out 10 books in this series. The third book did tie up everything neatly. I really enjoyed all three books, so if a fourth one is forthcoming I would certainly give it a try.

I have read a lot of shared world anthologies and books where the main author has collaborated with another person. The quality really all depends on the skills of the 2nd person, both in story weaving and writing. I think we should give her a chance.

  2. I tried commenting earlier this week without success...wish I could remember exactly what I wrote.

I think it's a little odd to a 4th book. I agree that the 3rd one brought things to a conclusion. Of course, I will likely read the next one, just to see how it fits and how the writing matches up.

I do think that all to often, something like this is just an effort to capitalize on someone else's success. But, I'll just need to read the book before casting judgement. :)

    Thanks for the heads up.

  4. Nat, I think I got it fixed so anyone can comment now. Thanks for letting me know it was a pain!

Also, my book club read the first in the trilogy and said that the first 100 pages or so were hard to get through, but then it picked up and was great. Personally I thought it was great all the way through, but there are some who think it just takes awhile to get into.
