My New Year's - gulp - Resolution

I hate New Year's Resolutions.  Not only do people normally not stick to them, but they're usually way too outrageous to even fully comprehend.  Instead, I prefer to set goals, which is basically a resolution but without the pressure.  For 2009, I challenged myself to watch all of Johnny Depp's movies within the year; I didn't finish (I have something like 12 more to go), but I did see a lot I wouldn't have otherwise, and I even have a new favorite (Benny & Joon, anyone?).

This year, however, I'm making not only goals, but a resolution.

1)  In 2009 I read 43 books.  In 2010, I'd like to bump that up to 50.

2)  I'd like to learn how to cook/bake more complex things, like layer cake and cheescake.

3)  In 2009 I completed my first (and only) book challenge.  In 2010 I'd like to complete 2.

4)  And finally, I'd like to be....wait for it....healthier.

Yes, yes, feel free to roll your eyes.  I certainly am.  But it's time to get down to business.  My current job and situation has created what I refer to as the "blob mentality."  I go to work and sit down.  I come home and sit down.  I eat what's quick and easy because I'm an emotional eater and I don't have patience.  I want instant gratification because I feel I've had to wait 9.5 hours already and dammit, I'm tired and hungry.  But this leads to not only a blob mentality, but a blobby, uncomfortable frame in which I have to walk around in.  So that's about enough of that.

What about you?  Are you making any resolutions or goals?  If so, what are they?

  1. I'm rejoining Weight Watchers (which I never actually quit...it's just been hanging out while I've been pigging out). It worked wonders for me in 2008, but I totally slacked off in 2009 and regained half of my successful loss. Here's hoping Round 2 goes as smoothly.

  2. Good luck! If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably join right along with you. :-)
